India’s Medical Devices Rules, 2017, require a quality management system for activities such as design and development, manufacture, packaging, labeling, testing, and installation and servicing of medical devices and IVD medical devices.

The rules also clarify that the processes related to a manufacturer’s activities are the responsibility of the manufacturer, even if outsourced.

This underlines the importance of structured QMS control for Indian medical device manufacturers targeting domestic and international markets.
